Emphasizes the
development of key skills, including extemporaneous delivery, speech
organization, and audience adaptation, though the preparation and
delivery of informative and persuasive speeches.
SPCM 462: Interpersonal Health Communication
Delves
into the basic theoretical and conceptual issues involved in the study
of interpersonal health communication. Centers on five key areas:
health and identity; illness, health, and social relationships;
patient-provider interaction; technology and its influence on
interpersonal health communication; and, education and prevention.
SPCM 199: Interviewing
Fosters
the development of skills and materials necessary for the job
application process. Serves as an introduction to the literature on
interview techniques and contexts.

SPE 101: Introduction to Speech
Focuses on developing knowledge and skill in two areas: speech content and delivery. Students practice skills and implement knowledge through four speeches and peer evaluations.

CMS 354: Conflict Resolution
Stresses
the acquisition of skills for effective interpersonal conflict
resolution. Provides a comprehensive introduction to communication
theory and research relevant to interpersonal conflict.
CMS 344: Lying and Deception
Addresses the role of communication theory and concepts in the study of liar behavior and its detection.
CMS 334: Nonverbal Communication
Surveys
the history of and research on nonverbal communication in interpersonal
interaction. Covers nonverbal behaviors and their
manifestation/interpretation in various cultures.
